Job Title

Staff Engineer, Product Engineering (Prod Dev)

Role Summary

The Product Engineer is responsible for defining, executing, and analyzing qualification and reliability testing for power modules (Si, SiC, GaN). The role ensures products meet customer, regulatory, and internal reliability requirements and complies with IPC‑9592 / IPC‑9592B standards.

This position works within Product Engineering (Prod Dev) and coordinates with Reliability, Design, Manufacturing, and cross‑functional teams to develop qualification plans, run HALT/HASS and other reliability tests, and establish production screening.

Experience Level

Senior — experienced engineer. The posting lists the role as "Experienced" but does not specify a required number of years.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing and executing qualification and reliability programs for semiconductor power modules and implementing HALT/HASS methods to define operational and destruct limits and production screens.

  • Develop and implement reliability and qualification test plans aligned with IPC‑9592 / IPC‑9592B.
  • Plan and execute environmental and electrical stress tests, including HTRB, HTGB, HAST, temperature cycling, power cycling, thermal shock, vibration, mechanical shock, storage tests, life testing, and burn‑in.
  • Conduct HALT and HASS to identify early‑life failures and establish production screening processes.
  • Apply Design for Reliability practices: MTBF, derating, FMEA, corrosion and moisture sensitivity analyses.
  • Develop operational and destruct limits and translate HALT results into production screening and test requirements.
  • Analyze test data, perform reliability / statistical analysis, and produce technical reports and qualification documentation.
  • Coordinate across reliability, design, manufacturing, and suppliers to support product qualification and manufacturing conformance.
  • Support regulatory and customer qualification requirements and maintain technical documentation.
  • Willingness to travel for qualification or supplier visits (approximately 10% travel).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and behaviors for successful performance in this role.

  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor power modules (IGBT, MOSFET, SiC, GaN) and their failure mechanisms.
  • Practical experience with environmental and electrical stress testing equipment and methods.
  • Experience implementing HALT and HASS and developing production screening based on those results.
  • Familiarity with IPC‑9592 / IPC‑9592B qualification and manufacturing conformance requirements.
  • Understanding of thermal, electro‑thermal, and mechanical fatigue failure mechanisms in power modules.
  • Proficiency with reliability statistical tools and analysis (Weibull; tools such as Minitab or JMP).
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills; ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting capability.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BS) or Master’s (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
