Job Title

Staff Engineer, Physical Design

Role Summary

Work on block-level physical design and methodology for next-generation, high-performance processor ASICs using advanced CMOS process nodes. The role includes place-and-route, timing closure, ECO implementation, and improving the team's P&R flow and automation.

Experience Level

Senior-level engineer. The posting requests 5+ years of physical design experience focused on block-level P&R for advanced nodes.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include physical implementation, timing closure, and flow support for complex logic blocks.

  • Perform synthesis, placement, routing, and timing analysis/closure on intermediate and complex logic blocks.
  • Maintain, enhance, and support the place-and-route flow using industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Develop and apply timing and logic ECOs; collaborate with RTL designers to resolve congestion and timing issues.
  • Debug block-level timing issues at the partition level and work with the global timing team to resolve them.
  • Automate design processes and workflows via scripting to improve efficiency.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Must-have: 5+ years of physical design experience with block-level P&R for advanced CMOS nodes (e.g., 7nm, 5nm, or below).
  • Must-have: Proficiency with physical-design EDA tools such as Cadence Genus and Innovus, and Synopsys IC Compiler and Fusion Compiler.
  • Must-have: Experience with static timing analysis tools (Tempus or PrimeTime) and EM/IR-drop/Crosstalk analysis tools (Voltus or PrimeRail).
  • Must-have: Ability to create automation scripts (Tcl, Perl, Makefile) to streamline flows.
  • Must-have: Strong collaboration and communication skills; detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of physical verification and formal verification tools (Calibre, LEC, Formality).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (as listed in the posting).
