Staff Engineer, Physical Design
Role Summary
Senior physical design engineer on the Consumer Product development team responsible for implementing digital subsystems in mixed-signal SoCs. Work includes floorplanning, place-and-route, clock and power distribution, timing closure and physical signoff.
Position is available at ADI offices in Valencia (Spain), Cork or Limerick (Ireland). Travel up to ~10%.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of digital implementation and physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver and own the physical implementation of significant digital subsystems and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Develop floorplans, power/ground distribution and clock tree synthesis.
- Perform logic synthesis, cell placement and interconnect routing.
- Drive equivalence checking, timing closure, and physical verification (LVS, DRC).
- Collaborate closely with RTL designers to resolve implementation issues.
- Plan schedules, track progress, and take technical ownership to meet tape-out targets.
- Work effectively with geographically distributed engineering teams.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical hands-on experience required for immediate contribution.
Must-have
- Strong knowledge of floorplanning, place-and-route, CTS, STA, ECO methodology, power analysis and physical design verification.
- Proven experience with digital implementation at 40nm process nodes.
- Broad experience in synthesis and timing constraints and timing closure techniques.
- Scripting experience (Tcl, SKILL, Perl) for automation of flows.
- Familiarity with modern implementation toolflows; Cadence tool experience preferred.
- Experience with Perforce/Methodics or similar versioning systems.
- Demonstrated technical ownership and strong teamwork and communication skills.
Nice-to-have
- Knowledge of CPF/UPF power-intent methodologies.
- Experience with Cadence Virtuoso and analog layout flows.
- Understanding of foundry rules and ability to produce tape-out ready GDS2.
Education Requirements
B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical Engineering / Electronics & Communication Engineering (EE/ECE) with 10+ years of experience in digital implementation as stated in the posting.
