Job Title

Staff Engineer, PD Advanced NAND Dry Etch

Role Summary

Senior/Staff engineer on Micron's NAND dry etch R&D team responsible for developing and owning dry etch process roadmaps for next-generation NAND. Work closely with process integration and adjacent process areas (wet etch, CVD, diffusion, metals, lithography, CMP) to meet program and yield objectives and maintain pilot manufacturing lines.

This role focuses on technical innovation and transferring robust processes into production.

Experience Level

Senior / Staff level. The role expects multiple years of semiconductor dry-etch R&D experience; see Education Requirements for formal degree-plus-experience guidance.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include process development, optimization, integration, and failure analysis.

  • Develop and optimize dry etch processes to meet physical and electrical product requirements.
  • Reduce cost and process variability and improve process capability.
  • Collaborate with process integration and other process development teams to create and implement solutions.
  • Perform root-cause and failure-mode analysis; drive vendor engagement to resolve hardware limitations.
  • Conduct fundamental research to support next-generation product requirements.
  • Maintain and operate a technology development pilot manufacturing line.
  • Support process transfer to production facilities; domestic and/or international travel may be required.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, and effectiveness while complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and capabilities. Education and degree-plus-experience combinations are listed in Education Requirements.

  • Demonstrated R&D aptitude with experience in experimental design and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills; ability to resolve complex issues via root-cause or model-based methods.
  • Proficiency in statistics and statistical process control (preferred).
  • Fundamental knowledge of at least one area: transport phenomena, dry etch processing, kinetic theory, statistical thermodynamics, or plasma physics.
  • Experience owning process roadmaps and driving solutions with vendors; able to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Data science basics and Python coding / GenAI programming desirable.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Ability to apply digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to use AI-enabled tools responsibly and contribute to continuous improvement.

Education Requirements

MS plus 3–4 years of relevant dry-etch experience; or PhD plus 1–2 years in relevant fields; or BS plus 5 years of relevant dry-etch experience. Relevant fields include Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Physics, Chemistry, Semiconductor Engineering, or related majors. Internships may be considered as part of job experience.
