Staff Engineer - Mask Design (Analog Layout)
RenesasJob Title
Staff Engineer - Mask Design (Analog Layout)
Role Summary
Analog layout lead within the Power Business Unit responsible for block-to-full-chip mask design for controllers, drivers and DC‑DC converters. The role focuses on floorplanning, analog matching, die/package integration and driving layout quality and portability across product IPs.
This is a hands-on technical role with ownership of layout schedules and collaboration across circuit, packaging and verification teams.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 7+ years of experience in Analog Layout Design.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform block-level and full-chip analog layout from floorplan through mask delivery.
- Design for matching, electromigration (EM), reliability and manufacturability.
- Integrate analog, digital, PowerFET, ESD, I/O and pad networks; manage die‑to‑bump connectivity and package interactions.
- Drive DRC/LVS/PEX closure and collaborate with CAD/verification for signoff readiness.
- Mentor and manage a small team of engineers; provide technical guidance to new graduates.
- Follow and improve layout methodology to enable IP portability across designs.
Requirements
Essential and preferred skills:
- Must-have: 7+ years in analog layout design with demonstrated ownership of layout projects and schedules.
- Must-have: Deep knowledge of floorplanning, analog layout matching techniques, EM and reliability-aware design.
- Must-have: Experience with die-level integration (PowerFET, ESD, I/O, PAD) and package interactions.
- Must-have: Proficiency in IC layout and signoff CAD tools (examples: Virtuoso XL, Calibre DRC/LVS, PEX, EM/IR tools).
- Must-have: Ability to work independently and coordinate cross-functional teams to minimize rework.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with BCD process nodes, flip-chip/BGA/wire‑bond packaging and substrate design.
- Nice-to-have: Scripting proficiency (Python, Perl, Tcl or similar) for automation and CAD flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
