Job Title
Staff Engineer, Machine Learning
Role Summary
Staff-level research scientist/engineer responsible for architecting AI-hardware co-design solutions that bridge algorithms and silicon. Work within an innovation lab to define compute strategies, validate proof-of-concepts, and drive system-level designs from research into deployable prototypes for edge and accelerator targets.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 3+ years of industry experience in relevant architecture or IC design roles.
Responsibilities
Lead technical execution across the algorithm-to-hardware lifecycle, focusing on system-level tradeoffs, feasibility, and validated demonstrations.
- Collaborate with business and domain experts to define high-impact problems and solution scope.
- Lead architecture definition and deliver validated proofs-of-concept that translate research into deployable solutions.
- Perform feasibility analysis using simulation and modeling to quantify impacts of memory hierarchy, dataflow, and precision on performance and efficiency.
- Drive algorithm-hardware co-design: adapt neural architectures, select compute substrates, and optimize for power/area constraints.
- Provide thought leadership, mentor junior engineers, and incorporate academic and industry advances into team strategy.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (education requirements are listed separately below).
- Deep system-level hardware expertise: memory hierarchies, on-chip networks, and execution models for efficient data movement.
- Edge AI and model optimization experience: proficiency with PyTorch or JAX; training/fine-tuning and hardware-aware techniques such as quantization (INT8, mixed-precision), tiling, and dataflow mapping.
- Proven silicon execution experience: demonstrated involvement in complex SoC or AI accelerator design, validation, or tapeout (preferred).
- DSP and signal-processing fluency: familiarity with transforms, sampling, noise analysis, and integrating classical signal chains with learning systems.
- Familiarity with RTL or modern hardware description languages (Verilog/SystemVerilog, Chisel, PyMTL) is a strong plus.
- Strong research record (publications in top conferences/journals) and ability to translate research into engineering deliverables.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for collaboration and validation activities.
Education Requirements
Requires a PhD specialized in Computer Architecture or Integrated Circuit Design (focused on AI workloads). The posting also specifies 3+ years of industry experience; no alternative or "equivalent experience" wording was provided.
