Job Title
Staff Engineer, IP Design (ASIC)
Role Summary
Join the SoC Design Team responsible for controllers used in high-performance SSDs. The role owns high-speed interface IP across RTL, verification, timing closure and silicon bring-up to deliver first-pass silicon success.
This position leads design and verification efforts, drives methodology and automation improvements (including AI-assisted flows), and mentors engineers while coordinating cross-functional work through to silicon bring-up.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting specifies a minimum of approximately 8 years of ASIC design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and verify high-speed interfaces for next-generation storage subsystems (NVMe or chiplet).
- Develop RTL (SystemVerilog/Verilog) and define microarchitecture for interface IP.
- Drive cross-functional efforts from RTL development through timing closure, synthesis, and silicon bring-up.
- Lead verification strategy, debug RTL (using tools such as Verdi/VCS) and improve automation and verification flows.
- Mentor and guide engineers, promoting best practices for first-pass silicon success.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical qualifications.
-
Must-have: ~8+ years ASIC design experience with deep knowledge of PCIe logic design and integration.
- Practical experience with SystemVerilog/Verilog for RTL development and microarchitecture definition.
- Experience debugging RTL using Verdi/VCS and automating tasks via Python or Perl.
- Experience with Clock Domain Crossing (CDC) issues, timing closure, and synthesis flows.
-
Nice-to-have: PCIe Gen4/5/6 architecture knowledge (TLP/FLIT pipelines, flow control, ordering rules, performance tuning).
- Experience with link training, power states (L0/L0P/L1/L2) and Advanced Error Reporting (AER).
- Proven cross-functional leadership working with software and system teams through silicon bring-up.
- Experience with AI-assisted design flows is a plus.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
