Job Title

Staff Engineer, Firmware & Product Test Engineering

Role Summary

Join the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team to develop and execute firmware verification for enterprise SSD features and NVMe protocols. The role focuses on test design, automation in Python, failure analysis, and improving validation coverage across simulation, FPGA prototype, and hardware environments.

Experience Level

Senior; the posting indicates senior-level experience (typical: 7+ years). Specific qualifications reference ~9 years with a Bachelor's or 7 years with a Master's (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities center on firmware test development, execution, automation, and communicating results.

  • Develop and execute firmware verification plans for NVMe and customer specifications, focusing on front-end SSD features (SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and implement grey-box, white-box, and black-box tests across module-level and integration stages.
  • Automate tests and data-collection tools using Python; maintain and extend test frameworks and regression suites.
  • Analyze regression failures, perform root-cause analysis, and document findings and mitigation plans.
  • Participate in code reviews and drive improvements in test coverage and code quality.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers, test developers, and cross-functional teams to improve product reliability.
  • Apply AI/ML techniques to improve anomaly detection, failure-pattern identification, and test efficiency.
  • Develop and evaluate agent-based and AI-assisted solutions to automate repetitive validation workflows.
  • Use modern AI-enabled coding and development tools to increase productivity and software quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and capabilities to perform the role; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proficiency in Python and related libraries (NumPy, pandas); ability to develop test automation and data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of test automation methodologies, regression testing, and test tools.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals and common evaluation metrics.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills; experience working with test data to diagnose complex failures.
  • Clear technical communication and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience using AI tools and applying AI-driven workflows (LLMs, prompt engineering, AI-assisted development).

Nice-to-have:

  • Exposure to ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) or hands-on ML/project experience.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems, firmware, or hardware testing concepts.
  • Experience with Git, agile workflows, and AI-assisted coding platforms (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot).
  • Experience building or integrating agentic AI or automation solutions for testing and engineering workflows.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies a Bachelor’s degree with approximately 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree (Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field) with ~7 years of experience. No alternative "equivalent experience" wording is provided in the source.
