Job Title

Staff Engineer, Firmware & Product Test Engineering

Role Summary

Join the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team to create and execute firmware verification plans for enterprise SSDs. The role focuses on test design and automation (primarily Python), validation across simulation/FPGA/hardware, and application of ML/AI techniques to improve test efficiency and failure detection.

Experience Level

Senior β€” Staff-level role. Typical experience guidance from the posting: approximately 7–9 years of relevant experience depending on degree level.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing verification plans, implementing automated tests, analyzing failures, and collaborating with firmware and cross-functional teams.

  • Design and execute white-box, grey-box, and black-box test methodologies for firmware features and NVMe protocols.
  • Develop Python-based test automation, data collection tools, and regression suites.
  • Analyze regression failures, perform root-cause analysis, and document findings.
  • Contribute to test development, automation, code reviews, and improving test coverage.
  • Validate firmware across simulation, FPGA prototypes, and prototype hardware.
  • Communicate test results, risks, and mitigation plans to firmware teams and management.
  • Apply AI/ML techniques to improve anomaly detection, failure-pattern identification, and test efficiency.
  • Develop and evaluate agentic or automated solutions to streamline repetitive validation workflows.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional capabilities.

  • Proficiency in Python, including use of libraries such as NumPy and pandas; basic familiarity with scikit-learn.
  • Solid understanding of test automation, testing methodologies, and test tools.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, common algorithms, training concepts, and evaluation metrics.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills; experience working with test data and regression analysis.
  • Effective collaboration and clear technical communication in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience using AI tools; foundational understanding of LLMs and prompt engineering.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Background in embedded systems, firmware, or hardware testing concepts.
  • Familiarity with software development practices (Git, agile) and AI-assisted coding platforms.
  • Experience building AI-enabled automation or agentic solutions that integrate with test frameworks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree with ~9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with ~7 years of experience (as listed in the source posting).
