Job Title
Staff Engineer, Firmware & Product Test
Role Summary
Validate and verify enterprise SSD firmware focusing on NVMe front-end features and customer requirements. Work on test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis across simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype hardware.
Collaborate with firmware test engineers, senior mentors, and data scientists to apply Python-based automation and data-driven / AI techniques to improve test efficiency and product quality.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience: approximately 7+ years (e.g., Master’s + ~7 years or Bachelor’s + ~9 years) in relevant engineering or data roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and executing validation efforts for SSD firmware and improving automation and analysis workflows.
- Develop and implement firmware verification plans for NVMe features and customer requirements (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
- Create, extend, and maintain Python-based test automation, reporting, and data-collection tools.
- Execute regression and validation tests across simulation, FPGA prototypes, and hardware; collect and analyze results.
- Perform root-cause analysis for failures and communicate findings and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools, LLMs, and agent-based solutions to accelerate test development, failure analysis, and workflow automation.
- Work with cross-functional teams to align tests to NVMe standards and product security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (degrees summarized below in Education Requirements).
- Proficiency in Python and data libraries such as NumPy and pandas; experience with Scikit-learn for data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with test automation, validation frameworks, testing methodologies, and code review practices.
- Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, model evaluation, and data-driven problem solving.
- Experience using AI-enabled development tools, LLMs, or prompt-engineering techniques in software development, automation, or analysis.
- Strong debugging and failure-analysis skills for firmware and hardware validation environments.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and applying ML/AI to testing or analytics.
- Familiarity with embedded systems, firmware validation, hardware testing, or enterprise storage technologies.
- Comfort with Git, Agile development practices, and modern software engineering workflows.
- Experience integrating Generative AI, agent frameworks, or commercial copilots for automation.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree plus ~9 years relevant experience, or Master’s degree plus ~7 years in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. (These degree + experience combinations are the stated baseline qualifications.)
