Staff Engineer, Firmware and Product Test Engineering

Role Summary

The Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team validates firmware for Micron's enterprise SSD products. This role leads validation strategy for NVMe front-end features, advances test infrastructure and automation, and provides technical leadership across product lines.

Responsibilities

Lead validation strategy and improve test infrastructure, automation, and verification for enterprise SSD firmware.

• Lead validation strategy and execution for NVMe front-end features across enterprise SSD products.
• Architect and enhance scalable test frameworks to improve automation, coverage, and firmware quality.
• Drive root-cause analysis of complex failures and establish effective debug methodologies and standard processes.
• Define and advance validation infrastructure, including automation, CI/CD integration, regression systems, and reporting tools.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve testability, influence design decisions, and communicate technical risks.
• Champion AI-enabled validation approaches and integrate data-driven insights into test strategy.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution.

• Expert-level Python programming and experience developing automated test frameworks; familiarity with NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
• Deep expertise in validation methodologies, test architecture, automation strategy, and verification of firmware or embedded systems.
• Experience applying AI/ML techniques and generative AI tools to engineering, automation, or failure analysis.
• Strong experience with CI/CD integration, regression management, automation tooling, and diagnostic/reporting systems.
• Proven technical leadership, clear communication skills, and experience mentoring engineers and driving cross-functional initiatives.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch and deploying ML solutions in engineering environments.
• Familiarity with SSD technologies (NVMe, PCIe, OCP, NAND) and firmware architecture.
• Proficiency in C or Rust for firmware debugging; experience with Linux, Windows, Git, and CI/CD tools.
• Record of technical innovation such as patents, publications, or open-source contributions.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree with 8+ years, Master's degree with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years of relevant experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
