Job Title
Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Staff Engineer in Arm's Solutions Engineering group responsible for implementation, physical design and methodology development for advanced SoC and CPU IP. Works across teams to improve power, performance, area and implementation quality and to enable partners to achieve high-quality results.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial experience; posting requests 8+ years of relevant ASIC implementation and physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Core duties include hands-on implementation, analysis, and methodology work to deliver and improve Arm IP:
- Synthesis, physical design and implementation of CPU cores, system interconnect and other Arm IP.
- Analyze timing, area and power; drive optimizations to improve IP quality.
- Develop and deploy implementation methodologies and data-mining/analysis techniques.
- Work with RTL design teams to drive analysis and optimization from RTL to final implementation.
- Convert R&D concepts into production implementation solutions and enable partners to achieve quality results.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience and behaviours:
- 8+ years experience in ASIC implementation: physical design, STA/timing closure, structured clock tree, PDN analysis, DFM and physical verification.
- Experience across the full IC design flow from RTL through GDSII; hands-on with top- and block-level synthesis, floorplanning, place-and-route, CTS, logical and physical optimization, timing closure and power analysis flows.
- Proven programming/scripting ability (examples: Tcl, Perl, R, Make); able to develop tools and automation for implementation/analysis.
- Experience creating and promoting new silicon implementation techniques and methodologies across international teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present new insights effectively and collaborate across teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with Arm-based SoCs.
- Additional scripting/programming languages and data-presentation skills (Python, C/C++, Java, JS, HTML, Ruby, shell variants).
- Low-power design techniques (power gating, voltage/frequency scaling), Verilog RTL design, ATPG or production test experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant technical field; equivalent practical experience accepted.
