Staff Engineer, DRAM
Samsung SemiconductorJob Title
Staff Engineer, DRAM
Role Summary
Member of the DRAM Design Lab within Samsung's Memory Business Unit responsible for DRAM and HBM architecture, full-chip optimization, and readiness for mass production. The role leads technical specifications, performance analysis, and cross-functional engineering coordination.
Work focuses on architecture definition, floorplanning, power delivery and reliability checks, design-for-test (DFT), and validation with silicon data.
Experience Level
Senior. See Education Requirements for degree-specific experience guidance.
Responsibilities
Deliver DRAM architecture, verification, and production-ready designs; collaborate across functions and with customers.
- Develop DRAM architecture and optimize floorplan for next-generation DRAM/HBM products.
- Lead design specifications, performance analysis, and test-plan development.
- Design ROW/Column/Bank architecture and related test modes.
- Define and implement DFT architecture and methodology for products.
- Plan and optimize power-delivery network (PDN) and minimize IDD/power consumption.
- Analyze electrical data from silicon and validate core architecture performance.
- Engage in technical interactions with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with product managers, process integration, product engineering, QA, and modeling teams to align design and technology optimization.
Requirements
Concise list of required and preferred technical capabilities. Degrees and years are listed under Education Requirements.
- Must-have: Proven experience in DRAM or memory design and demonstrable accomplishments in memory-product development.
- Must-have: Proficiency with industry design tools and statistical analysis tools used for architecture validation and performance analysis.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with DRAM I/O interfaces, SERDES, full-chip functional verification, RTL, logic synthesis, and timing analysis.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience developing low-power techniques, PDN floorplanning, and DFT for memory products.
- Nice-to-have: Track record of innovation, strong cross-functional collaboration, and global teamwork experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years industry experience, Master's degree with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years in DRAM or a related technical field preferred. (The posting specifies these degree-and-experience combinations.)
