Job Title

Staff Engineer, Digital IC Design

Role Summary

Design and integrate digital IP and subsystems for high-performance SoCs within the Custom Compute, Storage and Automotive Business Unit. Work with cross-functional teams (architecture, verification, physical design, DFT, packaging, SOC integration) to deliver tape-out quality silicon and internal processor IP blocks.

Lead RTL design, chip-level integration and automation efforts to meet product requirements and schedules.

Experience Level

Senior — experienced IC/SoC engineer. Typical guidance: 3+ years professional experience with a Bachelor's degree; 2+ years with a Master’s or PhD.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this role include system-level design, integration, and coordination across disciplines to deliver production silicon.

  • Integrate internal and external IP blocks at chip level and work with SOC integration team.
  • Lead RTL design for internally developed processor IP blocks and deliver micro-architectural specifications.
  • Collaborate with architecture, verification, implementation, DFT, and packaging teams to meet tape-out requirements.
  • Run and analyze functional and gate-level simulations, CDC, and code quality checks using industry and internal EDA tools.
  • Debug subsystem/SoC-level issues and support block-to-chip bring-up.
  • Develop and use automation tools to speed design and integration tasks; apply next‑generation AI tools where appropriate.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.

  • Proven RTL design skills in SystemVerilog.
  • Hands-on experience with block design and subsystem or SoC integration and debug.
  • Experience taping out one or more complex SoCs.
  • Understanding of how front-end RTL decisions affect physical implementation and verification.
  • Familiarity with ARM bus/protocols (for example: APB, AHB, AXI, CHI).
  • Experience with scripting for automation and flows (Python, Tcl, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
  • May require eligibility to access export-controlled technology; employment could be contingent on export license reviews.

Nice-to-have: leadership on IP projects, experience with SOC-level automation frameworks, familiarity with advanced verification or implementation flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant professional experience; or a Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with 2+ years of relevant experience.
