Staff Engineer, Digital Design Engineering
Analog DevicesJob Title
Staff Engineer, Digital Design Engineering
Role Summary
Lead digital IC design for high-performance MCU/DSP/NPU products within Analog Devices' Technology, Product & Operations organization. Deliver system and micro-architecture, RTL implementation, verification planning, and silicon bring-up for production-quality SoC IP.
Collaborate with verification, implementation, and product teams to optimize performance, power and area; apply tools and automation to improve design productivity.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically 7+ years of professional experience in digital IC/SoC design (staff/lead engineer level).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define system-level and micro-architectures for complex digital blocks and subsystems.
- Lead RTL design and micro-architecture decisions balancing performance, power and area.
- Produce detailed block and subsystem design specifications and implementation documentation.
- Plan and coordinate verification activities; perform waveform debug, regression troubleshooting, and coverage sign-off.
- Participate in implementation tasks: lint, CDC, constraints, synthesis, formal verification, ECO, timing and power closure.
- Support silicon bring-up, characterization and debug activities.
- Drive methodology improvements and share best practices across the organization.
- Apply AI/automation tools to enhance design automation, optimization and modeling workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (verification, layout, firmware, product) to deliver tapeouts.
- Travel approximately 10% as required.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Strong hands-on expertise in RTL design, digital architecture, and SoC integration.
- Solid understanding of block-level and system-level verification methodologies and flows.
- Familiarity with EDA flows (synthesis, static timing analysis, verification) and scripting with Python, Tcl or Perl.
- Proven ability to lead design projects from architecture through silicon validation and product debug.
- Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and lead cross-functional efforts.
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of CPU/DSP/NPU architectures and digital signal processing concepts.
- Experience with AI-assisted design tools or workflows to improve productivity.
Education Requirements
M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of digital IC/SoC design experience, or Ph.D. with a minimum of 5 years of digital IC/SoC design experience.
