Job Title

Staff Engineer, ASIC Physical Design

Role Summary

Member of the ASIC physical design team supporting Enterprise SSD processor, controller, or SOC development. Responsible for block-level and full-chip physical implementation tasks from floorplanning through tape-out, and for improving APR flows and PPA (performance, power, area).

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires significant hands-on ASIC physical design experience. The posting specifies a minimum of 8 years of relevant implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Work at block and chip level to implement and close timing, power, and physical verification for ASIC designs.

  • Block-level low-power floorplanning and placement.
  • Clock tree synthesis, routing, and RC extraction.
  • Static timing analysis (STA) and timing closure at block level.
  • Physical verification support: DRC/LVS/Antenna closure and tape-out preparation.
  • IR/EM analysis and closure of power integrity issues within blocks.
  • Develop and improve APR flows and perform PPA analysis.
  • Use EDA tools for implementation and verification; collaborate across design, verification, and validation teams.
  • Provide ownership for on-time deliverables and drive problem resolution.

Requirements

Key must-have skills and relevant experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Minimum of 8 years of hands-on physical design implementation experience and APR flow development.
  • Proven STA closure experience at block level and strong fundamentals in digital electronics and microprocessors.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence place-and-route tools (for example, Innovus) and timing tools (for example, Tempus).
  • Physical verification experience using Calibre for DRC/LVS/Antenna checks.
  • Experience with IR/EM analysis and closing power integrity issues.
  • Strong analytical, collaboration, and communication skills; ownership and time-management.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in advanced process nodes (5nm/3nm preferred), formal verification experience, and additional Cadence PnR tool expertise.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field; equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
