Staff Engineer, ASIC Gen AI
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Staff Engineer, ASIC Gen AI
Role Summary
Lead design and delivery of GenAI and ML solutions that accelerate ASIC engineering workflows (code generation, data extraction, failure triage, analytics, documentation automation, and knowledge retrieval). Work with engineering teams to translate complex semiconductor problems into production-ready AI systems and evaluate their effectiveness.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical background: Master's degree with ~8+ years or Bachelor's with ~10+ years of relevant experience; at least several years of hands-on AI/ML development and deployment in engineering or semiconductor contexts.
Responsibilities
Deliver and operationalize GenAI/ML systems that improve engineering productivity and decision-making.
- Design, build, and improve GenAI-powered systems and agentic workflows for ASIC engineering tasks (code generation, analytics, documentation, triage, root-cause retrieval).
- Develop and optimize LLM-based workflows: prompting, skills, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG and Graph-RAG), benchmarking, and quality evaluation.
- Build ML/DL models for classification, regression, anomaly/failure detection, and engineering decision support.
- Partner with domain experts and cross-functional teams to define AI use cases and integrate solutions into engineering processes.
- Support production deployment, monitoring, and operationalization of AI/ML solutions in cloud and enterprise environments.
- Communicate technical findings and model outcomes clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed as nice-to-have.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience developing and deploying AI applications in semiconductors, electronics, or other engineering industries.
- Proven experience building and implementing LLM-based systems, including RAG and agentic workflows, and evaluating model quality.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python.
- Familiarity with modern AI coding tools and agentic coding harnesses (examples: Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI or similar).
- Experience supporting production ML deployments, including monitoring and operational readiness.
- Nice-to-have: ASIC semiconductor domain experience (pre- and post-silicon), cloud production experience (GCP/AWS/Azure), LLM training/inference/evaluation expertise, data analytics and visualization (pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib, plotly), web tech (JavaScript/HTML/CSS), document-processing and retrieval systems, and designing enterprise-grade reliable ML systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years or Master’s degree with 8+ years in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
