Staff Engineer, ASIC Digital Design
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Staff Engineer, ASIC Digital Design
Role Summary
Senior digital design engineer on the ASIC logic design team responsible for architecting and delivering RTL for next-generation internally developed ASICs and controller IP. The role leads technical design activities, coordinates with analog and verification teams, and supports silicon bring-up and lab validation.
Experience Level
Senior - 8+ years industry experience.
Responsibilities
Translate requirements into microarchitecture and deliver robust RTL, lead integration with analog IP and third-party blocks, and support verification through silicon bring-up.
- Convert architectural and product requirements into detailed microarchitecture and RTL implementations.
- Develop digital designs interacting with custom analog, third-party IP, and SystemVerilog blocks with focus on performance, power, area, timing, and testability.
- Design RTL for DRAM/NAND/SSD controllers and related systems.
- Own RTL development activities: simulation, synthesis, timing closure, formal verification, and gate-level validation.
- Support silicon bring-up and lab validation; be hands-on during chip bring-up.
- Collaborate with Design Verification, Analog Design, Synthesis and Physical Design teams.
- Develop HDL models and participate in design reviews.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and promote engineering best practices.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. Items labeled as Nice-to-have appear separately.
- Must have: 8+ years industry experience in ASIC digital design.
- Must have: Strong RTL coding skills in SystemVerilog and solid verification technique knowledge.
- Must have: Experience with high-speed IO crossings and DRAM interfaces.
- Must have: Experience across RTL development, simulation, synthesis, timing closure, formal verification, and gate-level validation.
- Must have: Proficiency with software programming and scripting (Linux, shell scripting, Python).
- Must have: Understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuits and simulation (CMOS/CML logic, PLL, DLL, CDR).
- Must have: Experience with industry-standard tools for synthesis, linting, equivalency checking, and formal verification.
- Must have: Hands-on experience with chip bring-up and lab validation, and strong written/verbal communication for specifications and reviews.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of generative AI applied to the ASIC design flow and willingness to adopt AI tools.
Education Requirements
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (degrees listed: B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering).
