Staff Engineer, ASIC Digital Design
Role Summary
Staff Digital Design Engineer on Micron's ASIC logic design team responsible for converting architectural requirements into microarchitecture and delivering RTL and supporting artifacts for next-generation DRAM/NAND/SSD controllers and related systems.
The role leads implementation, cross-functional collaboration (verification, analog, synthesis, physical design), and supports silicon bring-up and lab validation.
Experience Level
Senior - posting specifies 8 years of industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include system-to-hardware translation, RTL development, and technical leadership.
- Translate architectural and product requirements into detailed microarchitecture specifications.
- Lead digital design development that interfaces with custom analog and third-party IP.
- Design and develop RTL for DRAM/NAND/SSD controllers and related systems.
- Own RTL development lifecycle: simulation, synthesis, timing closure, equivalency, formal verification, and silicon bring-up support.
- Collaborate with Design Verification, Analog Design, Synthesis, and Physical Design teams.
- Participate in chip bring-up and lab validation activities.
- Develop HDL models of circuits and provide technical leadership via design reviews and mentoring.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 8+ years industry experience working on ASIC digital design (as specified in the posting).
- Strong RTL coding in SystemVerilog and verification techniques.
- Experience with RTL simulation, synthesis, timing closure, linting, equivalency and formal flows.
- Familiarity with DRAM interfaces and memory-system RAS.
- Proficient in software/programming tools: Linux shell scripting and Python.
- Understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuits (CMOS/CML logic, PLL, DLL, CDR) for cross-domain integration.
- Experience supporting silicon bring-up and lab validation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to mentor and lead design reviews.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience or interest in applying AI / generative AI tools in the ASIC design flow.
Education Requirements
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (posting lists B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering).
