Job Title

Staff Engineer, ASIC Analog Design – AI/CAD

Role Summary

Senior ASIC analog design engineer on Micron's ASIC design team supporting AI-enabled CAD and the Virtuoso environment. The role focuses on deep sub-micron and high-speed PHY designs used in tester and controller IP, and on improving design automation and flows.

Experience Level

Senior - typically more than 6 years of ASIC analog design experience (the posting specifies >6 years).

Responsibilities

Work across environment maintenance, design flows, and schematic/layout design to deliver analog/mixed-signal IP and enable team productivity.

  • Design and develop deep sub-micron, high-speed PHY circuits; propose architectures and refine electrical specifications.
  • Draw schematics, run simulations, verify transistor-level designs, and present results to the team and stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance the analog CAD environment for front-end and back-end tools and flows; resolve bugs and implement improvements.
  • Integrate and maintain knowledge sources (knowledge graph, graphRAG, etc.) to improve AI agents and automation effectiveness.
  • Explore new workflows and AI-enabled automation to increase design efficiency and quality.
  • Provide design-space exploration and tradeoff analysis across circuit architectures and specifications.

Requirements

Key must-have skills and experience, followed by preferred skills.

  • More than 6 years of ASIC analog design experience, including high-speed PHY and deep sub-micron technologies.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of analog and mixed-signal (AMS) circuit design, advanced CMOS and FinFET technologies, device physics, and deep sub-micron issues.
  • Experience with transistor-level analysis: mismatch analysis, Monte Carlo, noise analysis, EM/IR concerns.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools and flows: Cadence ADE, Spectre, front- and back-end verification flows, Pegasus, Quantus, field-solvers (EMX, Helic), LVS/ERC/DRC, PERC, Pathfinder, Fill, advanced PDKs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex engineering tradeoffs to teams and customers.
  • Basic understanding of generative AI principles and interest in applying AI-enabled automation to design flows.
  • Nice-to-have: extensive generative AI knowledge, deep Virtuoso analog design and pcells experience, familiarity with TSMC PDKs, software basics, GIT, scripting in Python and Cadence SKILL, and system-level modeling with Verilog-A or Python.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering specified in minimum qualifications).
