Job Title
Staff Engineer AI/ML
Role Summary
Lead RTL development for an AI-enabled RISC-V CPU core within the MIPS team at GlobalFoundries. Own microarchitecture, RTL implementation, and cross-functional validation to meet performance, power, area and timing targets.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting indicates typical experience levels: Masters degree with 10+ years' experience or PhD with 5+ years' experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include CPU microarchitecture, RTL development, verification support, and collaborative integration into SoC and physical design flows.
- Drive micro-architecture and design of critical CPU core blocks.
- Design RISC-V vector CPU core and its custom extensions.
- Design AI-enabled matrix engine to augment the vector CPU.
- Perform high-level architectural exploration and produce detailed microarchitecture specifications.
- Develop, assess, and refine RTL to meet power, performance, area, and timing objectives.
- Support functional verification and contribute to verification strategy and performance validation.
- Collaborate with modeling, verification, and physical design teams on timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.
- Adhere to Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Hands-on experience with high-performance processors, vector processors, or GPUs.
- Datapath design experience including vector and matrix processing for floating-point and integer datatypes.
- Deep knowledge of microprocessor architecture (fetch/decode, branch prediction, instruction scheduling, register renaming, ROB, out-of-order execution, integer/FPU execution, load/store units, prefetching, vector datapaths, cache and memory subsystems).
- Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog and/or VHDL.
- Experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools.
- Understanding of logic design principles and timing and power trade-offs.
- Experience supporting RTL verification and working with verification teams.
- Ability to work cross-functionally to integrate CPU IP into SoC and physical design flows.
Preferred / nice-to-have:
- Experience designing RISC-V, ARM, and/or MIPS CPUs.
- Experience with hardware multithreading, virtualization, SIMD, or vector/matrix-enabled CPUs.
- Familiarity with low-power microarchitecture techniques and CPU integration at SoC level.
- Scripting experience (Perl, Python) and understanding of safety/security microarchitecture.
Education Requirements
Masters degree with 10+ years of relevant work experience, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant work experience. Specific fields of study were not specified.
