Job Title

Staff Electrical Engineer - Testing

Role Summary

Lead the hardware test strategy and execution for next-generation quantum instruments. Work hands-on in the lab with cross-functional teams (physics, electrical, mechanical, software, optical) to develop and run verification procedures, debug board-level issues, and mentor early-career engineers.

This role balances test procedure definition, hands-on characterization, and leadership of a growing verification team.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff). Years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Accountable for test planning, execution, and technical leadership across prototype and production verification.

  • Lead a team responsible for testing and debugging complex electronic circuits (FPGAs, MCUs, mixed-signal, precision analog, photonics).
  • Collaborate with physicists and multi-discipline engineering teams to develop and validate test procedures for instrument electronics.
  • Define and improve DFT/DFM practices with engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Create test plans for environmental, EMI, and EMC testing; oversee execution at external facilities and adjust protocols as needed.
  • Use laboratory test and measurement equipment to characterize and verify performance.
  • Specify equipment and software for automated data collection and production test systems.

Requirements

Key technical and interpersonal requirements. Must-have items are listed first; several preferred skills follow.

  • Must-have: Proven leadership experience testing precision instruments and/or sensors.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory environment and performing hands-on debugging of custom electronics.
  • Experience developing and executing test protocols, including specifying equipment and automating tests with scripts/programs.
  • Proficiency with electronic test and measurement equipment: oscilloscopes, VNA, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, function generators, DVM.
  • Experience designing test loads, cabling, and custom fixtures to support verification.
  • Proficient in post-test data analysis, organizing test results, and maintaining documented data storage systems.
  • Able to read schematics, datasheets, and define expected measurement ranges.
  • Export-control requirement: must meet U.S. Person eligibility for work on export-controlled technology (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, certain refugees/asylees).
  • Nice-to-have: PCB layout experience (Altium), ability to write embedded test firmware for MCUs, AS9100 experience, and environmental/space electronics testing (including radiation effects).

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE / MSEE) is specified in the posting.
