Role Summary
As a System Validation Engineer in Microchip's Data Center Solutions Business Unit, you will integrate, validate, and bring up SoC products and their prototype ecosystems (boards, FPGAs, firmware, drivers, and automation) to verify functionality, performance, and compliance with industry standards.
The role works closely with design, firmware, emulation, verification, and applications teams to develop test infrastructure, execute pre- and post-silicon validation, and resolve issues found during lab and field testing.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting specifies 3–10 years of relevant silicon/SoC validation experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on building validation environments, developing and executing test plans, debugging prototypes, and documenting results.
- Integrate prototype SoC hardware and firmware with emulation platforms, validation boards, and host systems.
- Develop, execute, and document feature, block, subsystem, and system-level tests to validate functionality and performance against design specs and industry standards.
- Build and maintain validation infrastructure: boards, FPGAs, embedded software, device drivers, and automation suites.
- Work with pre-silicon FPGA-based emulation platforms and post-silicon prototype ICs/SoCs.
- Run lab tests, perform investigations, isolate and report bugs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
- Present technical findings to small engineering teams, lead technical activities, and mentor junior engineers.
- Integrate AI-based tools to improve testing efficiency.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- 3–10 years of silicon/SoC validation experience (pre- and/or post-silicon).
- Ability to develop and execute functional validation tests and associated validation software and scripts.
- Experience working in lab environments and familiarity with common test equipment; strong debug and investigation skills.
- Proficiency in scripting (Python or Tcl/Tk) and programming in C/C++.
- Strong knowledge of digital system and computer architecture, data communication, and digital design theory.
- Hands-on hardware experience with x86-based host systems.
- Experience with Linux and Windows host environments.
- Thorough knowledge of circuit theory and high-speed signal fundamentals; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective team player with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing or debugging MIPS or Arm-based firmware and drivers.
- Familiarity with PCIe, CXL, DDR, NVMe, ONFI, SAS, SATA, I2C, SPI and protocol trace debugging.
- Experience testing and debugging high-speed SERDES and FPGA-based emulation environments; VHDL/Verilog experience.
- Knowledge of high-speed board design, PCB layout, signal integrity, and manufacturing processes; RTOS experience (ThreadX).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
