Staff DSP Architect
Marvell TechnologyJob Title
Staff DSP Architect
Role Summary
Design and architect high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) subsystems for electrical and optical transceivers used in data center, cloud, AI, and carrier applications. The role sits on the Data Center Engineering Connectivity DSP team and focuses on defining DSP architectures, simulation, algorithm prototyping, and supporting hardware implementation and chip bring-up.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff) level. The posting lists degree-based experience guidance: Bachelor's +3–5+ years or Master's/PhD +2+ years; the role is senior/Staff in title.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include architecture, algorithm development, modeling, and hands-on validation.
- Architect and simulate advanced DSP systems; set features, performance targets, and detailed specifications for analog and digital teams.
- Research and develop DSP techniques for high-speed SerDes and optical channels.
- Prototype and evaluate algorithms for equalization, adaptation, and forward error correction (FEC) using C++, MATLAB, or Python.
- Build bit-true behavioral models and collaborate with design and verification teams to ensure correct hardware implementation.
- Perform behavioral modeling of mixed-signal transceiver circuits.
- Participate in chip bring-up and lab debugging to validate system behavior.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience, followed by common preferred qualifications.
- Must-have: Practical experience in high-speed DSP for SerDes or optical communications, including equalization (FFE/DFE), adaptive filters, clock and data recovery (CDR), and FEC.
- Must-have: Proficiency in C++, MATLAB, or Python for algorithm development and simulation.
- Must-have: Experience building bit-true or behavioral models and collaborating with analog/digital design and verification teams.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with chip bring-up, lab debugging, or system validation.
- Preferred: Strong background in Probability Theory, Detection and Estimation Theory, Coding Theory, Digital Communications, or DSP research and R&D.
- Preferred: Knowledge of optical communication components (lasers, modulators, photodetectors, TIAs) and experience with direct-detect or coherent optical links.
- Preferred: Experience with signal integrity and ADC-based wireline transceivers and maximum likelihood sequence detection.
- Other: Effective communication and teamwork skills; self-motivated and adaptable to multiple projects.
- Compliance: Candidates must be eligible to access export-controlled information; an export license review may be required for non-U.S. citizens or non-permanent residents.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 3–5+ years of related experience, OR a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of experience. Posting specifies completed graduate coursework in at least two of: Digital Signal Processing; Digital Communications; Information Theory; Coding Theory; Probability Theory.
