Job Title
Staff Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the design and delivery of digital subsystems for mixed-signal integrated circuits, from architecture through lab validation. Work within Semtech's Wireless and LoRa system teams in Neuchâtel and Grenoble on low-power, long-range wireless solutions.
Collaborate across analog, verification, validation, test, and product teams to ensure production-ready, high-performance, and low-power digital designs.
Experience Level
Senior engineer — requires senior-level experience. The posting specifies 8+ years of experience in digital IC design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include digital architecture, RTL implementation, verification support, and lab validation.
- Design and implement digital subsystems: CPU-based architectures, FSMs, interconnects, and peripherals (I2C, SPI, analog controls).
- Define and architect digital system blocks and contribute to system-level trade-offs.
- Collaborate with analog teams to define interfaces for mixed-signal integration.
- Debug and analyse RTL and verification issues; determine root cause and drive fixes.
- Support block- and chip-level verification activities with verification engineers.
- Participate in lab validation, product qualification, and cross-functional engineering efforts.
- Drive improvements in design methodologies, tools, and overall design quality.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. Degree information is summarized in the Education Requirements section below.
Must-have:
- 8+ years of digital IC design experience, preferably in mixed-signal environments.
- Strong knowledge of frontend-to-backend flow, timing closure, and low-power design techniques.
- Experience with MCU-based architectures (ARM, RISC-V, STM32) and digital microarchitecture.
- Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL and scripting (Python, Tcl, or Perl).
- Experience with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g. Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens).
- Understanding of verification methodologies (UVM/OVM, formal verification).
- Familiarity with standard hardware interfaces (I2C, I3C, SPI, MIPI).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with wireless communication systems (BLE, IEEE 802.15.4) and transceiver architectures.
- Exposure to cryptographic block design and signal processing.
- Experience with FPGA design and FPGA-based system validation.
- Familiarity with version control and collaborative tools (Git) and embedded firmware/analog interaction knowledge.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (as stated). No other certifications or equivalent-experience language was specified.
