Job Title
Staff Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead digital RTL development and architecture for power-management and mixed-signal SoCs. Work across digital, analog, layout, firmware and verification teams to define top-level digital requirements and deliver compact, efficient digital controllers for PMICs.
Position is based in Munich; role includes design leadership, technical strategy, and mentoring of engineering staff.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience: 10β12 years of digital design experience in silicon-proven ICs.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include specification, design, integration and delivery of digital controller blocks for power-management ICs.
- Define top-level digital requirements and develop specifications for digital functions.
- Architect and implement digital control loops, state machines, multi-bus systems, embedded cores and clock-trees.
- Design regulators, timing logic, self-calibration and trimming logic, and communication interfaces (PMBus, AVSbus, I2C/SPI, PCMI).
- Write synthesizable RTL optimized for reliability and area/energy efficiency.
- Integrate RTL and gate-level netlists into mixed-signal and DV simulation environments with AMS/DV teams.
- Own synthesis, linting, CDC/STA checks, gate-level simulation, equivalence checking and backend/P&R support as required.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy and architecture decisions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 10+ years of digital design experience for silicon-proven ICs, particularly embedded/mixed-signal applications.
- Strong RTL design skills, finite state machines and digital architecture design for controllers.
- Practical experience with synthesis tools and flow setup (Synopsys, Cadence).
- Familiarity with digital design flow: RTL simulation, logic synthesis, timing constraints, STA, back-annotation of parasitics, and gate-level simulation.
- Excellent debugging skills and experience with simulation tools (e.g., Xcelium).
- Basic understanding of analog and full-custom circuit design to support mixed-signal integration.
- Willingness to travel (~10%).
- May require export licensing review for applicants who are not U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or protected individuals.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with asynchronous digital design and embedded cores.
Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
