Job Title

Staff Design Evaluation Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Post‑Silicon Engineering team responsible for bench evaluation and validation of new SoC products in the Digital Business Unit. The role leads silicon bring‑up, functional validation, debug, and PVT characterization to ensure production readiness.

Works cross‑functionally with Design, Product Test Engineering, and Applications teams to develop test hardware/software, automation, and characterization plans.

Experience Level

Senior-level (Staff). The posting indicates 4–8 years of hands-on experience in high-speed digital validation and firmware development.

Responsibilities

Deliver post-silicon validation, debug, and characterization from first-silicon bring‑up through production ramp.

  • Design and build bench hardware and software for digital and mixed-signal SoC validation.
  • Perform silicon and hardware bring‑up, functional validation, debug, and PVT characterization.
  • Develop, execute, and automate test scripts for validation, debug, and characterization.
  • Engage with Design teams on DFT to improve debug and testability.
  • Define and execute Silicon Characterization and Measurement (SCM) plans with Product and Test Engineering.
  • Collaborate with Applications teams to define system-level use cases for bench validation.
  • Support correlation between bench evaluation results and production test data to enable product ramp and release.

Requirements

Core technical skills and hands‑on experience required for the role.

  • Must-have: 4–8 years of hands-on experience in high-speed digital validation and firmware development for MCUs (ARM Cortex), DSPs, and NPUs.
  • Must-have: MCU/processor test firmware development experience.
  • Must-have: Electrical compliance characterization and system validation experience for high-speed interfaces (DDR3, PCIe, CSI, USB, HDMI).
  • Must-have: Experience with characterization of precision analogue IPs (ADCs, DACs, voltage references).
  • Must-have: Experience validating communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, USB and running system-level performance benchmarks for power and speed.
  • Must-have: Strong programming skills in Python and C; experience with VHDL/Verilog for automation, debug, and validation.
  • Must-have: Hands-on use of bench instruments including oscilloscopes, signal generators, analyzers, and Audio Precision systems.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to collaborate with Design, Product Engineering, and Test Engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with C#, embedded toolchains such as IAR and Keil, and additional automation frameworks.
  • Operational: Ability to travel up to 10% of the time; first shift / days.
  • Compliance: Hiring may require export‑licensing review for applicants who are not U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or otherwise protected individuals.

Education Requirements

B.Tech or M.Tech in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
