Job Title
Staff Design Engineer, HBM
Role Summary
Micron's Heterogeneous Integration Group develops and sustains High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products for AI/ML and high‑performance computing. This role focuses on sustaining design maintenance, silicon and system debug, and cross‑functional resolution of production and customer issues across the product lifecycle.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 6+ years experience with a BS or 4+ years with an MS in relevant fields.
Responsibilities
The role is responsible for sustaining HBM designs, debugging silicon and system issues, and coordinating cross‑functional fixes.
- Support HBM product design updates, ECOs, and specification changes.
- Own end‑to‑end silicon, system, and customer debug; perform root‑cause analysis and drive resolutions.
- Collaborate with design engineering, product engineering, process integration, packaging, and system teams to align priorities and execute fixes.
- Identify and debug yield, reliability, and performance issues to improve product quality.
- Support customer bring‑up, qualification, and system‑level validation as required.
- Capture sustaining learnings to improve verification and debug methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of DRAM/HBM architecture and high‑speed memory interfaces.
- Experience in digital and/or custom design and verification.
- Hands‑on silicon debug or post‑silicon validation experience.
- Proven ability to independently drive complex technical issues to closure.
- Proficiency using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code or similar) to improve design quality and debug efficiency.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with HBM/DDR/LPDDR or other high‑speed I/O systems.
- System‑level debug and silicon‑to‑system correlation experience.
- Timing and margin analysis, signal and power integrity knowledge.
- DFT, mBIST, and test‑mode debug experience.
- Programming/scripting for automation (Python preferred) and strong cross‑functional communication skills.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience; or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience.
