Staff CPU RAS and Manageability Controller Firmware Developer
QualcommJob Title
Staff CPU RAS and Manageability Controller Firmware Developer
Role Summary
Design, implement and validate embedded firmware for SoC management, including error handling, debug, telemetry, boot, power and runtime services. Work with hardware, firmware and systems teams to enable silicon and platform bring-up, diagnostics and production-quality manageability features across datacenter and other vertical platforms.
Experience Level
Senior level. Preferred 8+ years embedded firmware development experience; minimum guidance tied to degree: Bachelor's +4 years / Master's +3 years / PhD +2 years. See Education Requirements for details.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive firmware lifecycle: design, implement, debug and verify in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
- Develop core firmware stack and RTOS-based services for power and management controllers.
- Define and implement Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) and manageability solutions for CPUs and SoCs.
- Collaborate with hardware, silicon, platform and test teams for bring-up, debug and diagnostics.
- Engage with open-source communities to upstream support for architectures, drivers and firmware features.
- Participate in hiring, mentoring and defining team skill requirements.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills (must-have items first):
- Must-have: Proficiency in C and low-level debugging; 2+ years programming experience in C/C++, Java or Python; strong embedded firmware and driver development experience.
- Must-have: Experience with RTOS or embedded OSes (for example Zephyr, FreeRTOS) and driver development in RTOS or OS kernel environments.
- Must-have: Experience with pre-silicon debug tools such as simulators and FPGA emulation, and with silicon bring-up diagnostics.
- Nice-to-have: Assembly language proficiency and familiarity with ARM v8 architecture and ARM RAS/CPU RAS extensions (SDEI, APEI, UEFI CPER).
- Nice-to-have: Experience defining inter-processor communication interfaces and power-management controller frameworks.
- Nice-to-have: Proven ability to contribute to or integrate open-source support for processor architectures and device drivers.
- Other: Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to collaborate across hardware and firmware teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field with 4+ years of software engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years; OR PhD with 2+ years. Preferred: BS/BEng in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science with ~8+ years embedded firmware development experience. Equivalent professional experience is acceptable.
