Staff CPU Power Management Firmware Developer - Performance Management
Role Summary
Develop and maintain embedded firmware for CPU power and performance management on Qualcomm custom CPU platforms. Work with hardware, architecture, and firmware teams to define, implement, verify, and tune performance-management solutions in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
Experience Level
Senior level. Preferred experience ~8β12 years in embedded firmware development; minimum demonstrated software engineering experience begins at 4+ years depending on degree level.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, verification, cross-team collaboration, and platform enablement.
- Drive firmware design, implementation and verification for CPU performance and power management in pre- and post-silicon environments.
- Define CPU performance management solutions for current and future CPU generations.
- Characterize and tune performance-management solutions on SoC platforms.
- Collaborate with hardware, architecture, platform bring-up, and firmware teams for debugging and lifecycle support.
- Engage with open-source communities to contribute architecture support, device drivers, and firmware features.
- Work with third parties and platform partners during enablement and validation.
- Participate in hiring and skills development activities as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and relevant experience.
- Proficient in C; experience with assembly and other languages (C++, Python, Java) is useful.
- Embedded firmware and device driver development experience; experience in RTOS or OS kernel environments.
- Experience with pre-silicon development tools such as simulators and FPGA emulation, and post-silicon bring-up.
- Strong debugging skills and ability to work across hardware/software teams.
- Experience developing, characterizing, and tuning SoC subsystem performance management is highly desirable.
- Nice-to-have: DVFS, DCVS, SCMI, CPPC knowledge; familiarity with ARM v8 architecture; experience with embedded OSes (Zephyr, eCos, FreeRTOS, etc.).
- Ability to travel occasionally and perform sustained work with test equipment and computers.
Education Requirements
Listings include: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science (minimum with 4+ years relevant experience); Master's degree in Engineering/Information Systems/Computer Science (3+ years); or PhD in those fields (2+ years). Preferred mentions BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science and a candidate profile with ~8β12 years embedded firmware experience.
