Job Title

Staff CPU Power Management Firmware Developer - Limits Management

Role Summary

Design and implement embedded firmware that manages CPU subsystem operation within allocated power and thermal budgets for Qualcomm custom CPUs. The role focuses on limits management across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments and requires close collaboration with hardware, platform architects, firmware teams and external partners.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Preferred candidates have substantial embedded firmware experience; see Education Requirements for formal degree and years guidance.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware architecture, implementation, verification and platform enablement for CPU power and limits management.

  • Design, implement and verify CPU power-management firmware in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
  • Define and refine limits management solutions for current and future CPU generations.
  • Characterize, tune and validate power- and thermal-limiting behavior for SoC CPU subsystems.
  • Collaborate with hardware power management, firmware teams, platform architects and third parties during platform bring-up and enablement.
  • Contribute to open-source projects supporting processor architectures, drivers, and firmware features.
  • Support debugging, diagnostics and firmware lifecycle activities; participate in hiring and mentoring as needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Proficient in C; familiarity with C++ and scripting languages (Python/Java) is beneficial.
  • Experience developing and debugging embedded firmware and device drivers in RTOS or OS kernel environments.
  • Experience with pre-silicon tools (simulators, FPGA emulation) and post-silicon bring-up.
  • Experience with embedded RTOSes such as Zephyr, eCos, uC/OS or FreeRTOS.
  • Familiarity with ARMv8 architecture and platform development.
  • Ability to characterize, tune, and validate power/thermal limiting solutions for SoC subsystems.
  • Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Assembly-level debugging and low-level optimization experience.
  • Proven open-source contributions for processor support or firmware features.
  • Leadership experience and prior involvement in hiring or mentoring engineers.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 4+ years of software engineering experience; or Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years; or PhD with 2+ years. Preferred: BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent professional experience), with 8–12 years of embedded firmware development experience.
