Job Title

Staff BIOS/Platform System Engineer

Role Summary

Senior BIOS/UEFI engineer responsible for BIOS-level bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting across platforms built on AMD, Intel, and ARM processors. Primary focus is DDR memory subsystem validation, hardware–firmware interface resolution, and preparing platforms for production and manufacturing.

Work closely with Systems, Hardware, and Design Engineers in a lab environment to validate boot flows, power management, security features, and platform interoperability.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting specifies 3+ years of hands-on BIOS/UEFI firmware development or validation experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include platform bring-up, validation, debugging, and documentation.

  • Lead BIOS/UEFI bring-up and debug for new hardware platforms (CPU, chipset, memory subsystems).
  • Develop and execute validation plans for BIOS features, boot flows, power management (ACPI/S-states), and security (Secure Boot, TPM, AMD PSP, Intel ME).
  • Troubleshoot hardware–firmware issues: POST failures, memory training errors, PCIe enumeration, thermal and power sequencing anomalies.
  • Configure and validate DDR5 memory subsystems (SPD/XMP programming, memory training tuning, RAS features, JEDEC compliance).
  • Customize BIOS for manufacturing, factory programming, and sustaining engineering support.
  • Use JTAG/ITP, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and serial consoles for low-level debugging.
  • Collaborate with CPU/silicon vendors during bring-up and validation activities.
  • Author and maintain validation reports, debug guides, issue logs, and internal technical documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews, bring-up planning, and cross-functional meetings.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Hands-on experience with BIOS/UEFI firmware development or validation targeting AMD (AGESA, EPYC/Ryzen), Intel (FSP, Core/Xeon), or ARM (TF-A, EDK2) architectures.
  • Strong understanding of DDR5 memory architecture, training algorithms, SPD/MR registers, and RAS features.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting (Python, Bash) for firmware development and test automation.
  • Experience with UEFI/EDK2 framework, SMM, DXE, PEI driver development, and ACPI/ASL.
  • Familiarity with hardware debug tools: JTAG (Intel ITP, Lauterbach), protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, and serial interfaces.
  • Knowledge of platform buses and interfaces: PCIe, USB, I2C/SMBus, SPI, LPC, UART, GPIO.
  • Ability to read and interpret hardware schematics, datasheets, and silicon vendor documentation.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and technical writing/communication capabilities.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with AMD PSP, Intel ME/CSME, or ARM TrustZone security subsystems.
  • Familiarity with BMC firmware (OpenBMC) and IPMI/Redfish.
  • Experience with server RAS features (DRAM ECC, mirroring, patrol scrub, MCA) and PCIe Gen5/CXL validation.
  • Hands-on JEDEC DDR5 compliance testing and memory timing optimization experience.
  • Exposure to version control (Git), CI/CD, and agile engineering workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field (required as stated in the posting).
