Staff ASIC Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for verification of ultra-low power ASICs for audio and context-aware subsystems. Collaborate with design and verification teams to develop and execute test plans, build scalable testbenches and automation, and lead pre- and post-silicon verification and debug.

Position is on the ASICS Engineering team in Markham focusing on low-power SoC subsystems for audio and context awareness.

Experience Level

Senior — expects multiple years of ASIC verification experience. Typical guidance: 4+ years (Bachelor's), 3+ years (Master's), or 2+ years (PhD) in ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include verification planning, test development, and driving verification closure.

• Contribute to core verification during pre- and post-silicon phases via simulation.
• Drive test plan development, execution, and verification closure with design and verification teams.
• Create and maintain scalable testbenches, assertions, and functional coverage models.
• Develop and implement automation flows; identify and complete process improvements.
• Lead complex debug activities across the development cycle (pre- and post-silicon).
• Provide technical supervision to other engineers and collaborate with design to define verification methodology.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

• Minimum 4+ years ASIC design, verification, implementation, or related work experience.
• Expert in Verilog/VHDL RTL design; ability to write clean, synthesizable RTL.
• Deep understanding of ASIC/VLSI concepts and digital circuit design.
• Expertise with hardware verification languages/environments: SystemVerilog testbench (UVM) and/or SystemC.
• Expertise with hardware description languages: Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
• Working experience with C or C++.

Nice-to-have:

• Knowledge of audio codecs/formats (e.g., MP3, MIDI), bus/interconnects (AHB, AXI), or CPU architecture (ARM v7/v8, cache, MMU, security).
• Experience with event-driven simulators and digital circuit verification.
• Familiarity with scripting/tools: Perl, tcsh, Python, GNU Make.
• Experience with automotive safety concepts and standards such as ISO 26262.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field. Posting guidance: Bachelor's +4 years, Master's +3 years, or PhD +2 years of relevant ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; related technical fields accepted.
