ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia

Role Summary

Senior technical contributor and verification lead for next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs within the Acacia team at Cisco. The role focuses on planning and executing complex verification projects, improving verification processes, and mentoring engineers.

Experience Level

Senior β€” role expects experienced engineers. Cisco's minimum qualifications map to ~8+ years for a Bachelor's, 6+ years for a Master's, or 3+ years for a PhD; the position expects significant independent technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead verification planning and execution for complex ASIC projects and provide technical leadership to the team.

  • Lead and develop detailed, comprehensive verification test plans.
  • Design and develop verification testbenches and environments.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques and methodologies to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate the timely execution of test plans across the team.
  • Review verification code and coverage metrics; drive quality improvements.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers on verification practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate latest test technologies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • Extensive experience with modern ASIC verification methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming languages (specific degrees moved to Education Requirements).
  • Proficient in C++ and SystemVerilog/UVM.
  • Experience with SystemC.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to operate independently with minimal direction.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor teammates.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with in-house IP development and lab silicon validation.
  • Experience with DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM) and C++ templates.
  • Experience with Formal Verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).

Education Requirements

Degree and experience combinations accepted: Bachelor's + 8 years related experience, Master's + 6 years related experience, PhD + 3 years related experience, or equivalent related work experience. No specific field-of-study or certifications were mandated in the posting.
