Job Title

Staff ASIC Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver complex ASIC/IP blocks and SoC-level components for high-performance, low-power products. Work across architecture, verification, implementation, and documentation to move projects from specification to silicon.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical expectations include multiple years of ASIC design and verification experience (minimums vary by academic credential; a stronger candidate will have 6+ years of ASIC-related experience).

Responsibilities

Deliver and support ASIC/IP development across the full implementation flow and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Define architectures, circuit specifications, and logic designs from system-level requirements.
  • Model, design (digital and/or analog), optimize, verify, validate, and document IP (block/SoC) development.
  • Execute and evaluate flows from high-level design to synthesis, place & route, timing and power analysis, and verification.
  • Use EDA and custom-layout tools (e.g., RTL-to-GDS flows, Virtuoso) to implement complex blocks or IC packages.
  • Prepare and review detailed technical documentation and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware architects, product and program management to meet system and customer requirements.
  • Provide guidance to other team members and participate in decision-making affecting broader teams.

Requirements

Key technical and professional requirements. Must-have items are listed first; preferred items separate.

  • Must-have: Several years of ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience working on complex digital and/or analog IP or SoC projects.
  • Experience across implementation flow: synthesis, place & route, timing and power analysis, and verification methodologies.
  • Practical experience with RTL-to-GDS flows and common EDA toolchains; ability to produce technical documentation and design reviews.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and influence technical decisions.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with custom circuit design/layout flows (e.g., Virtuoso), architecture and high-level design tools, scripting/programming for automation, and formal design verification methods.
  • Prior exposure to interacting with senior leadership on technical or program-level topics.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications include one of the following combinations: Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a related field plus 4+ years of relevant ASIC experience; Master's degree in science, engineering, or a related field plus 3+ years; or PhD in a related field plus 2+ years. Preferred fields: Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical disciplines. Equivalent practical experience is accepted where noted.
