Job Title
Staff ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join Micron's ASIC Design team to develop next-generation SSD controller ASICs. Work across the ASIC design flow from micro-architecture and RTL implementation through verification and delivery to back-end teams.
The role requires close collaboration with verification, STA, physical design, emulation, software and system teams to deliver production-quality silicon and to improve design automation and processes.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 7β10 years of ASIC design experience (senior/staff-level expectations).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include front-end RTL design and integration, verification collaboration, and automation to support production ASIC delivery.
- Design, implement, and debug complex digital logic and RTL.
- Integrate and scale IP into larger system-level designs.
- Support front-end integration tasks: lint, CDC, synthesis, ECO and related flows.
- Collaborate with SOC design, verification, emulation, STA, physical design, software, and system teams for integration and delivery.
- Deliver gate-level netlists and meet timing/physical constraints for back-end implementation.
- Develop and maintain design automation and scripts to improve productivity and quality.
- Use AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve code quality, documentation, and debugging while ensuring responsible and secure usage.
Requirements
Required skills and practical experience for success in this role. Education expectations are listed under "Education Requirements" below.
-
Must-have: Strong RTL and/or testbench development skills using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
-
Must-have: Solid understanding of digital ASIC design methodology and experience on large-scale designs.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with standard ASIC front-end flows and tools (synthesis, lint, CDC, ECO, timing analysis, code coverage, assertions).
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with Design/Verification CAD tools such as ncsim, Design Compiler, Formality, PrimeTime or equivalents.
-
Must-have: Strong collaboration, documentation, and verbal/written communication skills in English.
-
Nice-to-have: Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, TCL, PERL) for design automation.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, USB, SATA, DisplayPort, HDMI) and storage/memory protocols (NVMe, SCSI, CXL, DDR).
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and experience adopting AI-enhanced engineering tools or AI-enabled EDA features.
-
Nice-to-have: Proven ability to work independently, mentor teammates, and drive tasks to completion.
Education Requirements
MS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience is required; the posting specifies 7β10 years of design experience. Equivalent practical experience in a related technical field will be considered.
