Staff Applications Engineer, Platform Hardware & Board Enablement
Role Summary
Customer-facing applications engineering role supporting Arm-based server platforms across board, silicon, and system domains. Work with customers and internal teams to enable platform bring-up, board-level validation, laboratory debug, and performance optimization.
Based at Arm's Shanghai office and collaborating with global engineering, solutions, quality, and partner enablement teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level - multiple years of experience in semiconductor, server hardware, or platform development (exact years not specified).
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for platform bring-up and stabilization, collaborate across teams, and deliver customer-facing artifacts and training.
- Act as primary customer hardware interface during development, EVT/DVT/PVT and deployment; lead platform stabilisation activities.
- Perform hands-on laboratory debug at board and system level; reproduce and isolate issues spanning silicon, package, PCB and system.
- Review and advise on board design, schematic and PCB layout decisions.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to track issues to closure and coordinate fixes across teams.
- Produce and deliver workshops, documentation, app notes and white papers to capture and share lessons learned.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes.
- Multiple years' experience in semiconductor, server hardware, or platform development.
- Strong practical board hardware bring-up, validation and debug experience.
- Experience reviewing schematics and PCB implementations, including stack-up, routing, impedance control, and power distribution.
- Knowledge of CPU, DDR, PCIe, I/O, power management, clocks, reset and server architecture.
- Recent hands-on use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and protocol analyzers in laboratory debug.
- Excellent customer-facing communication skills and proficient spoken and written English.
- Highly self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal day-to-day management.
Nice-to-have:
- Cadence Allegro experience.
- Linux and Python/Bash scripting.
- OEM/ODM or hyperscaler experience.
- Experience applying AI in an engineering environment.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or equivalent in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
