Staff Applications Engineer - Design Signoff

Role Summary

Provide technical customer support and applications engineering for signoff flows at advanced nodes, working with Synopsys product teams and customer design teams to resolve static timing, power integrity, signal integrity, and reliability issues that block tapeout.

Work on-site with customers and cross-functional internal teams to deploy and validate Synopsys signoff tools, translate field problems into product improvements, and build reusable procedures and documentation.

Mid-level β€” 3–5 years of hands-on semiconductor design or applications engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Deploy and support Synopsys signoff products (PrimeTime, RedHawk-SC, PrimeClosure, PTECO, Tweaker, StarRC) at customer sites for advanced-node SoCs and 3DICs.
  • Diagnose and resolve STA, power integrity (PDN), signal integrity, and reliability signoff problems across chip, package, and system levels.
  • Own technical issues end-to-end for assigned accounts to unblock tapeouts and meet schedules.
  • Collaborate with product development to convert customer issues and feature requests into product enhancements and roadmap items.
  • Support presales technical activities by demonstrating signoff solutions and articulating technical value to customers and sales teams.
  • Create and maintain deployment guides, troubleshooting FAQs, and EDA best-practice documentation for customers and internal teams.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve tools, methodologies, and customer engagement based on field experience.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 3–5 years of hands-on semiconductor design experience with deep expertise in static timing analysis, timing closure, ECO implementation, or PDN analysis at block or SoC level.
  • Proven experience providing technical support or applications engineering for timing signoff or power integrity domains, including direct customer interaction and issue resolution.
  • Working proficiency with Synopsys signoff tools such as PrimeTime, RedHawk-SC, PrimeClosure, PTECO, Tweaker, or StarRC in real design environments.
  • Strong scripting/programming skills (Python, Tcl, Perl) to automate workflows, analyze results, and create customer solutions.
  • Ability to own technical issues end-to-end, communicate with engineers and directors, and manage multiple customer engagements.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with PDN implementation flows, advanced-node design challenges, or 3DIC methodologies.
