Job Title

Staff Application Engineer (Performance Analysis)

Role Summary

Senior applications engineering role focused on system-level performance analysis and workload enablement for Arm SoC platforms, especially Arm AGI CPU platforms. The role works directly with customers, partners, and internal product groups to diagnose performance issues, tune workloads, and accelerate adoption of Arm solutions.

Primary goals are to resolve customer performance blockers, optimize application behavior across software and hardware stacks, and produce repeatable performance characterization and tuning guidance.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting identifies a staff-level role; no explicit years-of-experience requirement is stated.

Responsibilities

Work with customers and internal teams to identify and resolve performance problems, enable workload deployments, and create repeatable analysis methods.

  • Engage directly with customers to gather performance requirements and diagnose deployment obstacles.
  • Investigate and resolve workload performance issues across application, OS, runtime, and hardware layers.
  • Perform system-level profiling and tracing; analyze PMU data, CPU pipeline behavior, cache efficiency, memory bandwidth, and NUMA effects.
  • Run benchmarking studies and derive optimization opportunities for CPU, memory, cache, storage, and I/O.
  • Support migration, validation, and optimization of workloads (AI/ML, cloud-native, databases, HPC, enterprise web services, virtualized and containerized environments).
  • Collaborate with architecture, silicon, firmware, kernel, compiler, and software ecosystem teams and provide product feedback.
  • Contribute enablement materials, tuning guides, and mentor junior engineers on performance analysis techniques.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Background in performance engineering, software optimization, systems engineering, or similar technical roles.
  • Strong understanding of modern CPU architecture and system performance fundamentals.
  • Experience with Linux performance analysis tools and Linux-based environments.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills for analysis and tooling.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, written/verbal communication, and customer-facing skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Arm architecture and Arm server-class platforms.
  • Experience migrating workloads from x86 to Arm.
  • Performance optimization experience for AI/ML frameworks, databases, and cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with compiler optimizations (GCC, LLVM/Clang), containers, Kubernetes, and virtualization.
  • Knowledge of hardware PMUs, low-level performance monitoring techniques, and industry-standard benchmarks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
