Staff Application Engineer
Role Summary
Senior applications engineer responsible for development, validation, and qualification of DC–DC power converter products (VCORE controllers and SPS) at Renesas' Taipei design center. Works across Product Engineering, R&D, Firmware, and Marketing to deliver production-ready power management ICs for mobile and battery-powered systems.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical expectation per hiring criteria: Bachelor's degree +7 years, Master's +5 years, or PhD +3 years in the power management industry.
Responsibilities
Deliver and validate power-management ICs through silicon bring-up, characterization, and customer support.
- Translate customer requirements into product features and roadmap feedback with cross-functional teams.
- Plan and execute validation and characterization test plans to demonstrate performance and robustness.
- Automate bench measurements, analyze data, and produce concise validation reports.
- Create and review datasheets, application notes, user guides, design guidelines, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Support silicon bring-up and customer configuration (GUI/firmware/PMBus), including loop compensation, sequencing, and telemetry setup.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience.
- Experience with multiphase controllers and/or SPS powering Intel/AMD/SoC systems.
- Solid understanding of DC/DC topologies, control loop theory, magnetics, and converter applications.
- Proficiency with lab equipment (network analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveform generators) and lab-test automation.
- Experience using PCB CAD tools for schematic and layout.
- Strong lab-based debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
- Experience with SIMPLIS or similar switching-regulator circuit simulators.
- Mixed-signal IC/system knowledge and familiarity with power-management architectures for mobile and battery-powered devices (smartphones, tablets, PCs).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree plus 7 years, Master's degree plus 5 years, or PhD plus 3 years in the power management industry.
