Staff Analog IC Engineer
SemtechJob Title
Staff Analog IC Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver high-accuracy analog and mixed-signal ICs, owning critical chip subsystems and acting as a technical lead. Work with product, test, verification, reliability, and engineering teams to meet specifications, timelines, manufacturability, and yield targets.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 6+ years of analog IC design experience in the semiconductor industry.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities and areas of ownership.
- Design and develop robust, high-quality analog and mixed-signal IC blocks and contribute to full-chip integration and delivery.
- Take ownership of critical chip subsystems and serve as the domain technical expert for those blocks.
- Lead circuit and architectural innovation to improve performance, efficiency, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Product Definition, Test, Verification, Reliability, and Product Engineering throughout the product lifecycle.
- Perform schematic design, process-corner analysis, post-layout simulation, and block-level verification (LVS/DRC/PEX).
- Document design and characterization results, support DFMEA, and contribute to yield and reliability improvements.
- Communicate technical concepts and results clearly to senior stakeholders through reports and presentations.
- Support top-level chip verification, production ramp, and lab validation activities as required.
Requirements
Concise list of required and desirable technical qualifications.
- Must-have: 6+ years of analog IC design experience; deep knowledge of CMOS/BiCMOS analog circuit design; proven technical lead on chip development projects.
- Must-have: Strong mixed-signal design experience and expert use of the Cadence design environment, simulation, and verification tools.
- Must-have: Expert device modeling and mixed-signal simulation skills (Verilog-AMS, SystemVerilog).
- Must-have: Understanding of DFM, reliability, yield optimization, and issues such as parasitics, matching, ESD, latch-up, crosstalk, and IR drop.
- Must-have: Analog block and full-chip schematic design experience, process corner analysis, and post-layout simulation; block-level verification (LVS/DRC/PEX).
- Must-have: Ability to document design and characterization results; fluent written and spoken English.
- Nice-to-have: Chip top-level verification and production experience, mixed-signal lab validation, translating MEMS or haptic actuator models into equivalent circuits, and familiarity with high-voltage/high-current ASIC design.
- Nice-to-have: Demonstrated innovation and creative problem-solving on chip projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, or a related engineering field is required (posting pairs this with 6+ years of industry experience). Postgraduate qualifications (MSc or PhD) are listed as preferred.
