Job Title

Staff Analog Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits (PLLs, SerDes analog front-ends, clocking circuits, data converters) for silicon IP products. Work on transistor-level design through silicon bring-up as part of an analog/mixed-signal design team based in Markham, collaborating with global engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical guidance: Masters +3 years or PhD +1 year of relevant experience, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include:

  • Design and optimize analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed IP at 100Gbps, 200Gbps and beyond (PLLs, SerDes AFE, clocking, data converters).
  • Perform transistor-level design and simulation across process, voltage, and temperature corners.
  • Supervise and guide layout implementation, addressing parasitics, matching, shielding, and current density.
  • Translate system-level requirements (jitter, BER, bandwidth, power) into block-level specifications and design constraints.
  • Support silicon bring-up, validation, and lab debugging to isolate and resolve issues.
  • Mentor team members, contribute to design methodology improvements, and influence high-speed IP architecture decisions.

Requirements

Key technical skills and expectations.

  • Must-have: Hands-on analog and mixed-signal IC design experience with expertise in high-speed SerDes, PLL/CDR design, analog front-ends, or data converters and demonstrable architecture-level contributions.
  • Must-have: Strong foundation in analog circuit principles, device physics, and transistor-level design using deep-submicron CMOS technologies.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with HSPICE or equivalent circuit simulation tools; able to set up and interpret PVT and Monte Carlo analyses.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of layout effects and post-layout verification practices.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with silicon validation and lab debugging.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience mentoring engineers and improving design flows or methodologies.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 1+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent practical experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering or closely related technical disciplines.
