STA/Timing and Physical Design Engineer (Senior/Lead) - Modem Team
QualcommJob Title
STA/Timing and Physical Design Engineer (Senior/Lead) - Modem Team
Role Summary
Drive static timing analysis (STA) and timing closure for advanced Modem SoCs, collaborating with RTL, Physical Design (PD), DFT, and CAD teams to achieve timing signoff across the design flow.
The role involves block-to-full-chip timing analysis, ECO implementation, and automation of timing flows to meet performance and signoff targets for advanced technology nodes.
Experience Level
Senior / Lead level. The posting specifies degree-dependent minimum experience (see Education Requirements) and expects several years of STA/PD experience β typically 4+ years for experienced hires, with more senior candidates preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include timing analysis, closure, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
- Perform block and full-chip STA and drive timing closure across MMMC scenarios.
- Drive setup/hold closure, implement ECOs, and manage timing signoff.
- Analyze timing from netlist through GDS stages and validate timing constraints (SDC).
- Collaborate with RTL, PD, DFT, and CAD teams to identify and resolve timing issues.
- Analyze effects of noise, crosstalk, OCV/AOCV and optimize critical paths.
- Automate timing flows and reporting using scripting (Tcl/Perl/Python).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tools for this role; education specifics are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- Hands-on STA and timing closure experience, including MMMC, SDC and ECO flows.
- Proficiency with Synopsys PrimeTime / PTPX and Cadence Tempus.
- Strong understanding of digital design, synthesis, clock tree synthesis (CTS), placement/routing and basic PD interactions.
- Scripting experience in Tcl, Perl, or Python to automate flows.
- Ability to analyze noise, crosstalk, and OCV/AOCV impacts on timing.
- Experience with advanced technology nodes is preferred.
- Physical Design experience and willingness to own combined PD+STA responsibilities is a plus.
Education Requirements
Degree and experience options listed by the employer: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or related field with 6+ years' hardware engineering experience; OR Master's in those fields with 5+ years; OR PhD in those fields with 4+ years. The posting also references B.E./M.E. in ECE, EE, VLSI, Microelectronics or related fields. (Degree-based years are the employer's stated minimums.)
