STA Engineer
QualcommJob Title
STA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate ASIC/IP blocks and participate in the RTL-to-GDS implementation flow for high-performance, low-power SoC products. The role works within an ASICS engineering team and collaborates with software and hardware architects to deliver block- and chip-level implementations.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career - typically requires 1β3 years of relevant ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience depending on degree level.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include hands-on design, verification, and documentation across the ASIC/IP development flow.
- Define, model, design (digital and/or analog), optimize, verify, validate, implement, and document IP (block/SoC) development.
- Create architectures, circuit specifications, logic designs, and system simulations from system-level requirements.
- Execute RTL-to-GDS flow and/or custom circuit design/layout flows; evaluate synthesis, place-and-route, timing, and power tradeoffs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software and hardware architecture) to develop implementation strategies that meet system and customer requirements.
- Apply verification methods and tools to validate designs; produce detailed technical documentation.
- Work independently on assigned tasks and communicate results to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience expected for immediate contribution. Preferred items are listed separately.
- Practical ASIC experience in design, verification, validation, or integration (typical range 1β3+ years depending on degree).
- Experience with architecture and design tools and flows (RTL-to-GDS, synthesis, P&R, timing and power analysis).
- Familiarity with EDA tools such as Virtuoso and standard ASIC implementation toolchains.
- Experience with design verification methods and test strategies.
- Scripting and programming experience for automation and verification tasks.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate across teams.
- Nice-to-have: experience with SoC-level design, IC package considerations, and low-power optimization techniques.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications listed: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 2+ years ASIC experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 1+ year ASIC experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field. Preferred fields include Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
