Job Title

SSD Hardware Validation & Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Validate and characterize enterprise SSD hardware across electrical, protocol, and system levels. Work includes NAND, DRAM, PCIe, and board-level systems using Linux-based validation environments to test, debug, and automate validation processes.

This role ensures performance, reliability, and functionality before customer delivery and influences final hardware quality.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not specify exact years; expects practical experience validating or bringing up complex digital hardware systems and proficiency with lab instrumentation, Linux, and scripting.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Validate SSD hardware from bring-up through full electrical and protocol characterization.
  • Characterize power, performance, NAND, DRAM, PCIe, and chip-to-chip interfaces.
  • Identify hardware and component issues, drive root-cause analysis, and partner with design teams to implement fixes.
  • Build and maintain Linux-based validation environments and debug system-level failures.
  • Develop Python automation and data-analysis tools to scale validation and improve repeatability.

Requirements

Must-have skills and tools:

  • Proficiency in Linux administration, scripting, and debugging test systems.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, power supplies).
  • Experience validating or bringing up complex digital hardware systems.
  • Python scripting for automation and data analysis.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with enterprise or data-center SSDs.
  • Validation experience across power, performance, NAND, DRAM, or PCIe.
  • PCIe Gen4 or Gen5 validation and calibration experience.
  • Experience debugging I2C, I3C, SMBus, UART or similar chip-to-chip protocols.
