SSD Firmware Development Engineer Intern
Role Summary
The intern will develop and test firmware for SSD flash interfaces and controllers, working with SoC, hardware, and validation teams to deliver product-quality firmware. This is a 6-month, full-time internship based onsite in San Jose.
Start: Immediately (September/October 2026). Hours: 40 hours per week. Compensation: $35/hr - $45/hr.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Suitable for students currently pursuing or recent graduates of relevant technical degrees.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware design, integration, debugging, and cross-team collaboration.
- Design and implement firmware for the Flash Interface Layer of SSDs.
- Integrate developed code with other modules and resolve integration issues.
- Debug and resolve firmware bugs in FPGA and ASIC environments.
- Participate in code and design reviews to ensure product-quality output.
- Coordinate and communicate proactively with SoC, hardware, and validation teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience.
- Knowledge of NAND flash commands and operations.
- Experience developing NAND management algorithms or error control coding.
- Proficiency in C or C++ for embedded systems.
- Hands-on firmware development experience for SSD/NAND controllers or flash firmware at the kernel/embedded level.
- Experience with debugging tools such as JTAG or in-circuit emulators.
- Board Support Package/device driver experience and ability to read datasheets and implement firmware on real-time systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, and clear oral and written communication for documentation and teamwork.
Nice-to-have:
- ARM architecture knowledge and ARM assembly experience.
- Familiarity with Linux kernel, device drivers, and storage software stack.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
