SRAM Bitcell Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design and development of SRAM bitcells for advanced CMOS nodes, driving device, circuit and process improvements to meet product and manufacturing requirements. Work across architecture, process technology, fab partners and SoC teams to deliver qualified bitcell solutions.
This is a senior technical role with responsibility for technical direction, project delivery, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical background: 6+ years of relevant industry experience (or a Ph.D. plus ~3+ years) in device/circuit design, process development, or SRAM bitcell work.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, project delivery, and cross-functional collaboration:
- Design, develop, and implement SRAM bitcells at advanced CMOS nodes.
- Define bitcell performance specifications and qualification requirements.
- Drive innovation in process technology and circuit design to improve performance, yield, and reliability.
- Plan and manage schedules, deliverables, and milestones across multiple SRAM development projects.
- Identify and mitigate process and design risks across PVT and manufacturing variation.
- Lead technical reviews, resolve design issues, and prioritize engineering resources.
- Collaborate with SRAM architecture, SoC teams, process technology groups, and external fab partners.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish design methodologies, standards, and best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of required and preferred capabilities.
- Proven expertise in SRAM bitcell design and understanding of memory performance tradeoffs.
- Deep knowledge of scaled MOSFET device physics and short-channel effects.
- Hands-on experience with advanced CMOS process technology (28 nm and below).
- Advanced proficiency in simulation and device modeling tools (examples: Cadence Virtuoso, SPICE, Sentaurus).
- Experience in design verification, silicon characterization, test development, and silicon-to-model correlation.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, project management, and ability to drive multi-team projects to completion.
- Strong communication skills and experience mentoring engineering teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Fab/process integration and manufacturing experience from development to production.
- Expertise in reliability issues (retention, soft errors, BTI, hot carrier) and yield/DFY methodologies.
- Published technical papers, patents, or experience in technology roadmapping.
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in device physics, electrical engineering, semiconductor physics, memory technologies, or related field with ~3+ years of experience, OR Master’s degree in a related field with ~6+ years of industry experience. (Source lists these degree + experience combinations as required qualifications.)
