Sr Staff Software QA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, lead and execute manual and automated testing of customer-facing software that integrates with hardware and firmware. Work with cross-functional teams and customers to validate digital controller solutions, drive automation and validation framework improvements, and resolve complex HW/SW issues through root-cause analysis.
Experience Level
Senior β 12+ years of Software QA experience, including at least 8 years testing software integrated with hardware/firmware.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include test planning, execution, automation, reporting, and cross-team defect resolution.
- Generate test requirements and define test methodologies with global teams.
- Develop a robust understanding of product software, related hardware, and firmware requirements.
- Design and execute automated and manual test plans for software, hardware, firmware, and IC solutions.
- Debug software and hardware issues with an emphasis on IC functionality and root-cause analysis.
- Analyze test results, report defects, and support issue resolution with development and customer teams.
- Drive test automation, validation framework improvements, and QA best practices.
- Mentor team members and contribute to testing strategy, planning, and process improvements.
- Manage multiple priorities while balancing quality, timelines, and feature delivery.
- Proactively identify risks and recommend product and process improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 12+ years of Software QA experience; 8+ years testing software integrated with hardware/firmware.
- Hands-on automated and manual testing experience; develop and execute test cases in Python or other object-oriented languages.
- GUI test automation experience with Python and tools such as Qt Squish, SmartBear Test Complete, or similar.
- Strong debugging skills across software, firmware, and hardware; capable of detailed root-cause analysis distinguishing software vs hardware/firmware failures.
- Experience with electronics, microcontroller programming, and bus communications.
- Familiarity with lab test equipment, measurement tools, JIRA, version control systems, and QA best practices.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor QA teams, improve test coverage, and drive quality initiatives.
Nice-to-have:
- Background in power systems, semiconductors, IC or power engineering.
- Experience in lab management, validation frameworks, or customer-facing technical support.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical field.
