Job Title

Sr Staff Product Engineer

Role Summary

Senior product engineering role responsible for end-to-end product lifecycle execution, characterization, qualification, failure analysis, and yield strategy for semiconductor ICs. Works cross-functionally with design, reliability, test, and manufacturing teams to release and sustain products into high-volume manufacturing.

Location: Hybrid — Morrisville, NC. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States; Renesas cannot sponsor work visas for this role.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting specifies senior-level experience (examples in education section indicate typical experience expectations: ~10+ years with a Bachelor's degree, less with advanced degrees).

Responsibilities

Lead technical and program execution across product definition, characterization, qualification, and ramp to volume; drive data-driven decisions and cross-functional resolution of complex issues.

  • Lead NPI/product lifecycle from concept through qualification and ramp to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).
  • Define and execute validation, characterization, and qualification strategies aligned to product requirements and customer use cases.
  • Perform advanced statistical analysis and large-scale data analysis to characterize electrical performance, distributions, corners, and guard-band optimization.
  • Investigate yield excursions, parametric shifts, and failure mechanisms; drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Plan and interpret reliability stress tests (HTOL, HAST/uHAST, TC, ELFR) and ensure defensible qualification coverage.
  • Lead ESD and latch-up qualification strategy, testing analysis, and failure resolution.
  • Establish analytics frameworks, dashboards, and visualization tools to enable data-driven product decisions.
  • Promote and implement AI/ML and automation to improve characterization, anomaly detection, and predictive modeling.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and communicate findings to stakeholders and senior leadership.

Requirements

Key required skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • Proven track record releasing multiple semiconductor products from concept through qualification into HVM.
  • Deep expertise in statistical analysis (distribution analysis, correlation, limit optimization) and large-data analytics.
  • Extensive experience in product characterization and electrical performance evaluation.
  • Strong background in reliability qualification, ESD, and latch-up methodologies and failure-mode investigation.
  • Experience leading complex failure analysis and cross-functional root-cause investigations.
  • Hands-on familiarity with data analysis tools and scripting (Python, JMP, or equivalent) and building dashboards/visualizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI/ML techniques to engineering data and to drive efficiency improvements in workflows.
  • Proven leadership, cross-functional influence, and clear technical communication skills with stakeholders and senior management.

Nice-to-have:

  • Working knowledge of JEDEC standards (e.g., JESD47, JESD22 series) and industry qualification practices.
  • Hands-on experience with HBM/CDM ESD testing, latch-up analysis, and reliability stress interpretation.
  • Experience with Edge-AI-enabled products or data-centric semiconductor applications.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Microelectronics Engineering. Experience guidance stated in the posting: 10+ years with a Bachelor’s degree, 8+ years with a Master’s degree, or 5+ years with a PhD. (These degree and years expectations are drawn from the original posting.)
