Sr. Staff Engineer, Applications Engineering (STA, PrimeTime)
SynopsysJob Title
Sr. Staff Engineer, Applications Engineering (STA, PrimeTime)
Role Summary
Customer-facing senior applications engineer responsible for driving adoption and deployment of PrimeTime for timing sign-off across advanced-node SoC designs. The role provides hands-on support during evaluations and tape-outs, delivers training and methodology improvements, and feeds customer-driven requirements back to R&D.
Experience Level
Senior-level - typically Bachelor's +10 years or Master's +8 years of relevant ASIC/SoC design or EDA experience (per employer guidance).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead and execute technical evaluations and benchmarks that demonstrate PrimeTime's runtime, capacity, and accuracy advantages.
- Provide hands-on support during timing closure, ECO iterations, and sign-off; resolve complex timing, variation, and signal-integrity issues.
- Deploy PrimeTime at customer sites from evaluation through production tape-out, including competitive evaluations and tape-out support.
- Develop and deliver technical training and methodology guidance on timing constraints, multi-mode multi-corner analysis, and variation modeling.
- Collaborate with R&D to reproduce field issues, communicate customer requirements, and influence product roadmap.
- Build and maintain TCL automation and scripts that improve customer productivity and demonstrate best practices.
- Act as the technical liaison between customers, sales, marketing, and engineering to translate pain points into actionable solutions.
Requirements
Required skills and experience (must-haves first, then preferred):
- Deep, practical experience with PrimeTime: timing analysis, constraint development, and sign-off flows.
- Strong understanding of timing concepts: setup/hold analysis, clock domain crossing, multi-mode multi-corner scenarios, OCV/AOCV, and signal-integrity effects.
- Proficiency in TCL scripting for automation, analysis, and methodology development.
- Familiarity with the digital design flow: synthesis, place-and-route, extraction, and ECO methodologies and how STA integrates into each phase.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; able to explain technical tradeoffs to engineers and management.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites for evaluations, training, and critical milestones.
- Prior customer-facing or field-engineering experience is a strong plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of hands-on ASIC/SoC design or EDA experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years of experience. Equivalent practical experience is accepted according to the posting.
